How is eligibility for special education determined?

Schools must fully evaluate all children suspected of having a disability.  If your school suspects your child may have a disability, it must obtain your written consent before conducting an evaluation.  Schools have several months to complete the evaluation of your child.  The evaluation must include assessments in all areas of suspected disability. Once the evaluation is complete, the school will convene a special education eligibility meeting with you to determine if your child is eligible.
